Online play has also been confirmed, with 24 players able to play at once, a leap from the 8 player capacity on the Xbox 360's Call of Duty 2. The online play, as well as offline, will also have vehicles similar to Call of Duty: United Offensive, the expansion pack to Call of Duty for the PC. These vehicles include tanks, jeeps, motorcycles (with sidecars) and large trucks with mounted weapons.
An interesting detail to note is that Doyle and Major Ingram return from Call of Duty and Call of Duty: United Offensive. Their opening mission proceeds a lot like CoD:UO in that their plane gets shot down and they're recovered by the local resistance.
Battle - Standard Deathmatch. No class abilities apply.
Team Battle - Team Deathmatch, class abilities are available.
CTF - Capture the flag, with some differences to the traditional formula: while carrying the flag, players are unable to fire their weapon. However a melee attack can be performed with the flag. The flag can also be dropped in order to use weapons. Class abilities are available in this mode.
1 CTF - The same as CTF, except there is one neutral flag in the center of the map. It must be carried to the enemy's base to score a point.
War - This mode is similar to Domination in United Offensive. There are maps with 3 or 5 control points marked by flags on the map. Teams start out half the flags on map, with the odd flag neutral. Each team must attempt to raise their own flag at each point. The team who controls all points will win.
Headquarters - The same rules as previous Call of Duty games apply, with some small changes. Players can now respawn after dying. After each death, 30 seconds is added to the respawn timer. In addition, the time required to successfully defend an HQ has been reduced to 90 seconds.

Players can fight on either the US or German side, each with 10 player classes: Rifleman, Heavy Assault, Light Assault, Medic, Scout, Support, and Anti-Armor. Each class has its own unique abilities, such as medics being able to heal teammates and scouts calling in artillery strikes.
There are also ranks in the game. In most games there is a normal rank system, which has 3 levels. The rank increases when you capture bases or kill enemies, which will give you special benefits such as more damaging artillery strikes if you are a scout. The rank lasts only one game, and your rank will be reset for the next game. There is also TrueSkill ranking, which ranks your skill anywhere from Private all the way up to General.
